Danish Siddiqui Foundation launches the Journalism Scholarship Program 2023

Danish Siddiqui Foundation is awarding scholarships to students pursuing journalism degrees from Indian universities.

NEW DELHI, Delhi, December 16, 2022 — The Danish Siddiqui Foundation announces the launch of its Journalism Scholarship Program for 2023. The new scholarship program is aimed at students passionate about pursuing a career in journalism.

The scholarship program is named after the renowned two-time Pulitzer-winning photojournalist Late Danish Siddiqui, whose powerful images carried deep meanings which covered a broad spectrum of society and always created a lasting impression. Despite rising to great heights in the photojournalism field, he always chose to be in the area through perseverance and hard work, capturing the various perspectives of the agony and pain of the oppressed people in some of the most challenging locations in the world. His courage and boldness sent out a strong message of professional integrity to the fraternity and the world.

Danish Siddiqui’s valor and eminence will stay etched in history, and journalism will forever remember him through his pathbreaking photographs and contributions.

The scholarship is open to current undergraduates and graduate students of Indian universities. The Foundation will award the five winners Rs. 50,000 each in scholarships.

Danish Siddiqui Foundation believes that supporting the educational advancement of aspiring journalists through scholarships will provide financial access to economically weaker students, while guided mentorship will help accelerate skill development. As an important pillar of society, these future journalists will play a vital role in shaping the world’s future.

Through the Journalism Scholarship Program, the Foundation hopes to encourage students to engage in value-based journalism.

“Danish Siddiqui Foundation is committed to promoting value-based journalism, and we believe that every act of supporting aspiring journalists — even a small one — helps turn the world into a better place,” said M Akhtar Siddiqui, Trustee of Danish Siddiqui Foundation. “We hope that our Danish Siddiqui journalism scholarship will encourage students to pursue the path of value-based journalism and inspire them to take pride in journalism.”

To apply, students must fill out the form on the Foundation’s website (www.dsfasia.org/scholarships). The selection committee will interview the shortlisted applicants. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit and financial needs. However, meritorious applicants from economically weaker sections (income less than Rs. 350,000) who’ve secured admission to journalism degree courses at a government college will get preference.

Applications have a rolling deadline. The winners will be announced on January 31, 2023.
