Photo Exhibition on “Inclusivity and Diversity in the Media” Held at Jindal Global University

The Danish Siddiqui Foundation, in collaboration with the Jindal School of Journalism & Communication, successfully concluded a powerful two-day photo exhibition titled “Inclusivity and Diversity in the Media” from 11 to 13 April at the Jindal Global University campus.

The exhibition aimed to highlight the inclusive and diverse aspects of reportage in the Indian media industry, focusing on traditionally marginalized or underrepresented communities. The exhibition opened conversations around identity, rights, resilience, and visibility through compelling visual storytelling.

The exhibition featured the work of five outstanding photographers:

  • Deep Nair captured stories from India’s LGBT+ community, highlighting lived realities and the fight for dignity and acceptance.

  • Chitvan Gill showcased the lives of migrant workers through India Lives in Her Villages, but Has Been Forced to Go to Her Cities to Work, emphasizing the silent labor force that powers India’s economy yet remains unseen and unheard.

  • Palani Kumar documented the Dalit communities in Out of Breath, a stark portrayal of manual scavenging — a banned yet persisting practice that continues to strip dignity from marginalized workers.

  • Vicky Roy presented Everyone is Good at Something (EGS), a nationwide project highlighting the achievements, dreams, and everyday lives of persons with disabilities (PwD) across India’s diverse regions, focusing on abilities rather than limitations.

  • Aman Chotani offered an intimate portrait of Ladakh’s tribal communities, capturing the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and evolving realities of indigenous people living in one of India’s most remote regions.

Each body of work challenged dominant narratives and called attention to the urgent need for more inclusive representation in Indian media.

The exhibition was part of the Danish Siddiqui Foundation’s mission to promote journalism rooted in empathy, integrity, courage, and truth. It also reflected the commitment of the Jindal School of Journalism & Communication to prepare future journalists to engage deeply with diverse and authentic stories.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, educators, media professionals, and photography enthusiasts, leading to meaningful conversations around representation, ethics, and the future of inclusive journalism.

The Foundation extends its gratitude to the artists, the university, and all visitors for making this important initiative a success.
