Sanjoy Majumder

Sanjoy Majumder is Co-Founder and Managing Editor of Collective Newsroom, an independent media organisation committed to producing public interest journalism and innovative digital storytelling.

An award-winning journalist with more than three decades of experience, Sanjoy has reported extensively from South Asia and other parts of the world on some of the most significant political, social, and humanitarian developments of recent times. Before co-founding Collective Newsroom, he had a distinguished career with the BBC, serving in a range of editorial and reporting roles, including as the BBC's India Correspondent and South Asia Correspondent.

Over the course of his career, Sanjoy has covered major stories including conflicts, elections, natural disasters, and social change across the region, earning recognition for his incisive reporting, field-based journalism, and nuanced storytelling. Prior to joining the BBC, he worked with the American television networks NBC and PBS.

Born in London and raised across Africa, the Middle East, and India, Sanjoy studied at St. Stephen's College, Delhi, and later attended Northwestern University in the United States.

Through Collective Newsroom, Sanjoy continues to champion independent, collaborative, and deeply reported journalism, while mentoring a new generation of journalists committed to public service and ethical storytelling.
