New Delhi: We are thrilled to announce that Danish Siddiqui and other Reuters team members, including Saurabh Sharma, Devjyot Ghosal, and Alasdair Pal, have been awarded the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award in Uncovering India Invisible for their outstanding work in COVID-19.
Their extensive reporting uncovered the struggles of India’s rural poor, migrant workers, and other vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic and brought their struggles to the forefront of public discourse. Their work, which spanned several months, involved extensive travel across India to document the lives of those living on the margins of society.
Danish Siddiqui, who tragically lost his life while covering the conflict in Afghanistan in 2021, was a talented two-time Pulitzer-winning photojournalist whose powerful images captured the human side of news events. We are honored to see his work recognized posthumously and know that he would have been proud to receive this award.
The Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award is one of the most prestigious awards in Indian journalism and recognizes excellence across various categories. The award was established to honor the memory of the late Ramnath Goenka, a fearless journalist and advocate for press freedom.

The Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards ceremony was held on March 22, 2023, in New Delhi, and was attended by leading journalists, media professionals, and dignitaries from across the country.
